A gummy smile can be easily treated with anti-wrinkle injections – a minimally invasive, quick procedure. When injected, Botox relaxes the muscles of the upper lip, limiting its contraction and elevation when smiling so that more of the gums will remain covered. Two or more units of Botox are injected in the area between the nose and upper lip to reduce the amount of gum exposed, creating a more appealing and natural smile.

  • Gummy smiles tend to be genetic, stemming from issues such as excessive upper jaw growth, long or enlarged gum tissue, or a short or hyperactive upper lip, but regardless of the cause, anti-wrinkle injections are a highly effective treatment.

  • Injections are placed between the upper lip and the nose, ensuring the signals which cause contractions are blocked, resulting in an upper lip that no longer contracts or lifts as much when smiling.

  • Some clients experience a little discomfort, especially if nervous around needles, but Botox injections are a non-surgical treatment and the procedure is largely pain-free.

  • Anti-wrinkle injections have been used safely across the world for decades. Advancements in research and application mean that they are now used medically to help with teeth grinding and excessive underarm sweating.

    Botox is not advised for pregnant or nursing women, or for clients with muscle or nerve conditions that might not interact well with anti-wrinkle injections.

  • The results may vary from patient to patient but generally, the effects of anti-wrinkle injections last for 3 to 4 months.

  • It takes 2 to 3 days before you will begin to see results. The upper lip will gradually lower and the full results will be visible within 14 days of the treatment.
